Matt with the White Sands Orchestra
Dr. Matt Markel is a powerful and energetic trumpet player in the Northwest Florida area. Matt is the lead trumpet in the swing / rock band The Swingin' Dick Tracys, and is also the lead trumpet player for Pensacola's well known Joe Occhipinti Big Band. He is one of the lead players with Fort Walton Beach's Playground Swing big band (which often performs with vocalist David Seering). He has performed with the Northwest Florida Symphony, Eastside - Westside, Tall Cotton, the Don Lewis Orchestra, and was the lead trumpet for the Latin band La Orquesta Tropical and Keith Ellis' SESSIONS Big Band in St. Louis, MO.
Dr. Markel was the lead trumpet for the Pensacola Little Theatre's 2008 production of La Cage aux Folles. His jazz trio, The Starlight Jazz Combo, has performed for several venues in the Fort Walton Beach and Destin area.
Matt is currently directing the White Sands Jazz Band - a community band playing songs from the big band era.
Matt has performed for countless weddings and worship services as a soloist, accompanied soloist, and with large and small ensembles. He is a regular performer at the worship services of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Walton Beach.
Matt plays a Reeves (Bra Spa) VR-II trumpet and a Reeves High-Efficiency mouthpiece. Before settling on this configuration, he played on a Scodwell trumpet, and Warburton and Schilke (Faddis Heavyweight) mouthpieces.

Students: I am currently accepting students for private trumpet instruction. My teaching is focused on developing range, flexibility, and endurance, and I strictly teach methods that are working for me.
